The Wavell School

Welcome to Sociology

Sociology Curriculum

Sociology is an option for our Year 10 & 11 students. The Wavell curriculum for Sociology aims to enable students to gain knowledge and understanding of key social structures, processes and issues through the study of families, education, crime and deviance and social stratification.

Throughout the course the specification requires students to:

  • draw on information and evidence from different sources

  • analyse and evaluate various research methods

  • analyse and evaluate evidence and information on a variety of written, visual and numerical forms

  • apply their understanding to explore sociological issues in each topic area

  • use sociological theories and evidence to compare and contrast social issues, construct reasoned arguments and debates, and make substantiates judgements and draw conclusions.

We hope that Sociology students at The Wavell School will be better able to understand and analyse the social world.
