Festival of Friends Project Award

The University of Winchester, in partnership with Armed Forces Covenant and The Hampshire Education Coordinator Network for Service Children, invited primary and secondary schools in Hampshire to enter a Festival of Friends Project.

Schools from across Hampshire took part in the Festival of Friends celebration on 17th April 2018 at the University of Winchester.

The Wavell School were presented with  1st Prize in Raising Awareness and Welcoming Military Families in the secondary school category, this was through work and activities carried out in The Drop In. Part of the Award is a cash prize to support further development of the project.

We had to be able to demonstrate that our school project was:

  • Improving the integration of service with non-service pupils.
  • Developing an awareness of service life (and life for service children) with their teachers and classmates.
  • Helping service families to integrate more smoothly and effectively into their School
  • Promoting effective practices for improving the integration of service and non-service pupils and families that can be shared with others.

6 students from both military and non- military backgrounds accompanied staff from the Drop In to collect the prize. The students had a University campus tour experiencing a state of the art recording studio and the opportunity to become a weather presenter.

We are extremely proud of the students who acted as our ambassadors that day.
