Mrs Emma Wright
Headteacher - School Improvement & Strategic Planning
Mrs Wright is the Headteacher at The Wavell School and was appointed in 2023. She has 20 years of experience working in Secondary Schools and prior to her appointment at The Wavell School, was Deputy Head at Collingwood College in Camberley where she held several responsibilities including Curriculum innovation, Staffing, IT Strategy and Timetabling. Mrs Wright is passionate about Teaching and Learning and continues to enjoy teaching English. She is resolute in her determination for The Wavell School to continue to flourish and hold a position of excellence at the heart of our community.

Mr Mark Pike
Deputy Headteacher - Curriculum & Standards
Mr Pike joined the school in January 2019 as Assistant Headteacher. Prior to that, Mr Pike was at Court Moor School; during his time there he had held the roles of Head of PE and Head of Year. He teaches PE and is extremely passionate about the subject. Mr Pike is now Deputy Headteacher in charge of Curriculum and Standards.
“Having visited The Wavell in 2016 I was struck by the strong sense of community within the school. The school’s ethos of ‘We Care to Challenge’ was clearly evident and I left feeling that this was a place where I would one day love to work. I feel very fortunate to have been given that opportunity and I really enjoy working with the fantastic staff and students here.”

Mrs Lisa Hogg
Deputy Headteacher - Pastoral & Behaviour and Attitudes
Mrs Lisa Hogg is our Deputy Headteacher (Pastoral & Professional Development). She joined the school as Head of History in January 2004 and has been Deputy Headteacher since 2013. Her role focuses on Inclusion and Learning, having oversight of the Pastoral Team. Mrs Hogg is the Designated Safeguarding Lead and the Mental Health Lead.

Mrs Shakiara Valu
Assistant Headteacher - Teaching & Learning and Curriculum Development
Mrs Valu is our Assistant Headteacher (Teaching & Learning and Curriculum Development). She has over 14 years of experience working in Secondary Schools in a number of roles including ITTco, Head of Drama, Head of Performing Arts and Acting Assistant Principal. She teaches Drama and is passionate about the Arts to encouraging curiosity, spark creativity and build confidence. Mrs Valu has presented at multiple PiXL Secondary Conferences about Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and strives to create an inclusive and inspiring environment for all.

Mr Andy Fearn
Assistant Headteacher - Operations & Personal Development
Mr Fearn is our Assistant Headteacher in charge of Operations and Enrichment. He leads our Applied Learning programme including trips and visits which help make sure our students can apply their learning in the Real World. He is one of our Assistant Designated Safeguarding Leads, a member of the Exams Team and is also our Staff Governor.

Mrs Sam McKie
Assistant Headteacher - Inclusion & Achievement
Mrs McKie is our Assistant Headteacher (Inclusion and Achievement). After joining Wavell in 2000, she soon became part of the Pastoral Team and spent 17 years as a Director of Year. She spent a number of years working within SEN as a teacher of SPLD and as a member of the English Department teaching GCSE. She continues as Head of Dance - her passion, which she introduced to the curriculum in 2004. Mrs McKie is one of our Assistant Designated Safeguarding Leads.

Mrs Helen Blunden
Senior Bursar & Data Protection Officer
Helen Blunden is our Senior Bursar and joined The Wavell School in September 2015. Helen’s responsibilities include the financial management of the school with a core purpose of developing, directing and coordinating the full range of school financial and administrative services. Helen is also actively involved in the strategic development of the school covering such areas as site and the overall school business.
“This role is challenging and extremely rewarding with each day being different. I thoroughly enjoy working with such dedicated, caring and knowledgeable professionals in a school were the students are given the opportunity to develop their learning. The Wavell School has a lovely feel to it and successfully works within the local community.”
