Headteacher’s Welcome
I am absolutely delighted to offer you the warmest of welcomes to The Wavell School website. It has been an absolute privilege to have been appointed by Hampshire and the school Governors to be entrusted with taking over the role of leading such a vibrant school earlier on in 2023; a school which has been well led by my predecessor and the excellent Senior Leadership Team that are in place. It is evident for anyone who visits Wavell how professional, committed and dedicated the staff are and it therefore comes as no surprise that we have recently celebrated record-breaking GCSE results which bucked the national trend. More importantly it is evident that students at Wavell are happy, engaged in their learning, they feel safe and they appreciate the very many opportunities that being a student at Wavell affords them. Quite simply, Wavell’s ethos of “We care to challenge” supports our fantastic students – whatever their ability, background or interests - to make success inevitable and that is something that I am hugely proud of.
I am determined that Wavell builds on its legacy and continues to flourish and hold a position of excellence at the heart of our community. Our school is one of the most exciting schools in this area to learn at and we have very high standards and expectations of ourselves and our students – we call this “The Wavell Way.” Our curriculum is dynamic and inspires a curiosity and love of learning and ensures that all students make outstanding progress, achieving superb results enabling them to move onto their next phase of education. The synergy with Curriculum and Pastoral care is vital and at Wavell, the pastoral care is second to none. Our exceptional staff are relentless in their support of students’ academic successes but also their physical and emotional wellbeing. Equally important is the partnership that we have with our parents. Together we can be ambitious and ensure that our students have high aspirations, make excellent progress and leave us with the necessary skills and attributes to move onto the next phase of their lives.
As a parent you are embarking on one of the most important decisions you will have to make regarding your child’s education and we will support you to make the right choice. In order to see the “Wavell Way” in action do take the opportunities available to you to come in and visit the school as it is impossible to capture the brilliance of our staff and students on a single page on our website. I look forward to welcoming you for a visit – you are very welcome.
